Events - 2009 Marcia Burnside Memorial Time Trial

Where: Cripple Creek Pullout on Parks Highway.
    When: Thursday, May 7th.
    Distance: Approximately 12 miles.
    Registration Start: 6 pm registration)
    Registration End: 6:45 (Racer.s meeting)
    Race Start: 7 pm

Race the clock during the annual Marsha Burnside Memorial Time Trial. This is the first race in the Edward Jones Points Race Series.

If attendance for this race is anything like last year.s, this stands to be one heck of a bike race. We.ve arranged with Hollywood Data Systems for pretty good race timing, and this year start times will be seeded, with ladies first and men with aero helmets and tri-spoke wheels last. Riders please register by 6:45

Parcours: Start at Cripple Creek and Parks Highway. Ride out Cripple Creek over a series of rollers to the end of blacktop, just after Potter Road. Do a 180 around a cone and wave to the Turnaround Marshall. Come back on Cripple Creek over the same, slightly more painful rollers and go right on Isberg. Enjoy the steady uphill to Chena Ridge, make another 180 around a cone, high-five the second Turnaround Marshall and power down the hill.

Stop: All riders must make a complete stop at the stop sign at the bottom of Isberg on the returning stretch. Place a foot on the ground, bring your momentum to zero, then resume back to the start/finish. No Idaho stops, no California rolls. The stop should be good enough to convince a State Trooper of your compliance with traffic laws. Brian (not a trooper but wants a hat like that) will be grilling hotdogs and enforcing the stop rule, so any violators will be disqualified and fined a bag of frosted animal cookies with sprinkles.

Danger: This is a skinny two-lane road with no shoulders and plenty of cars. Your safety and the reputation of cyclists in Fairbanks is your responsibility. Be aware of and yield to motorized traffic. Please keep the roadway clear when you aren.t racing. Anyone noodling around in the middle of the lane before or after their ride will be publicly chastized and fined a bag of frosted animal cookies with sprinkles.

Prizes: Riders in the top ten of the standings get points applied to the Edward Jones Points Series. Riders outside the top 10 will be invited to enjoy a slice of pie while the top finishers watch hungrily. Riders in the top 3 of the men.s and women.s classes ought to get trophies or enjoyable prizes, but I don.t know what yet. Possibly a bag of frosted animal cookies with sprinkles. Any suggestions?

Volunteers: Anyone whose parents will be at the race who would be willing to help spot numbers on riders as they finish would be great. Remember, any racers interested in the Edward Jones Points Series standings need to volunteer twice (or have somebody volunteer in their place) over the next 8 races, so if you don.t want to ride but are free to help, let me know.
